On a life-changing camping trip in Big Sur, Pilar decided to leave her job, home, and relationship in Southern California to travel the world working on organic farms.
At the time, she knew of one other person doing this. A boy named Chris, whom she had been around at social events and heard a lot about through mutual friends but never formally met.
When she came back into service, she checked her phone and saw she had been added on Facebook by Chris Fowler.
Upon seeing his name, she had a feeling that he was going to be an instrumental person in her life.
She messaged him, "I'm so glad you found me!"

We essentially spent the next month glued to our phones—talking or texting. As wild as it sounds, during that month, we told each other we loved each other, shared our most intimate stories and secrets, and planned our whole lives together. We knew we were each other's destiny. On Chris's birthday in Los Angeles, we met in person and began a radical romance.

Following in Chris’s footsteps Pilar left to WWOOF (willing workers on organic farms) in March of 2016. She spent the first month alone, and then Chris joined her. When he arrived at the farm, we had only physically spent a few days together. We ‘officially’ began our relationship, working together on the farm and living in a tent. To us, it made perfect sense.

We spent the next 3 years farming and traveling. Frequently moving up and down the West Coast from Oregon to Northern California to Southern California and back again. We also spent a summer farming and traveling in Central America. By age 25, we had already done everything people say is what makes or breaks a relationship: work together, live together (in cars, tents, and farms!), and travel the world.

In 2018, we moved to Los Angeles to live with Chris’s Dad and figure out how to ‘adult’ on our terms. Pilar’s business was a baby seedling. After 2 1/2 years in LA, the business blossomed, allowing us to return to Hood River and begin anew. The 2 1/2 years away had revealed to us that The Gorge was our shared dream for ourselves and our future family.

In the Summer of 2020, we returned to the enchanted landscape where our relationship began. Since then, we have adopted cats, turned our sweet house into a home, and become co-stewards of the business. Our life feels like a dream we were co-imagining before we crossed paths. Some of our earliest conversations detailed the very life we have now. Our wedding is both ceremony and celebration. A prayer we have been praying since those first conversations nearly a decade ago, realized. Sharing this moment in time with you is an honor.
